My Take on the “Top Affiliate Challenge” Reality Series

First off, my sincerest apologies for the lack of activity around the blog. I’ve been very busy with numerous things and its gotten me a bit off balance with the blog. My intentions were to pickup activity but then again, keep in mind that it is summer time and a time for many other things to take place.

During the last week or so I’ve also been keeping an eye on a internet reality series called Top Affiliate Challenge. My initial reaction to the news of an internet marketing reality show was excitement. But to my surprise it is nothing more of disappointment. A few other people have opinionated what they thought of the show.

Now here is my thoughts on it…

1) Present a ACTUAL Challenge - I began watching the first show was high expectations but the show seemed a bit off by a long shot. The show has no rules and specifically no challenge, just to “make as much money as you can in 24 hours.” The “small” amounts of drama I guess was supposed to beef up the show but in my opinion didn’t do it any good ratings.

2) Show Needs a More Professional Look - As UberAffiliate said, the camera clarity seemed like the show was recorded with a cheap flip camera. The editing was terrible on top of that. The text work could have been a lot more professional. The “professionalism” in the video wasn’t the best.

3) Follow Through With the Idea - The idea of the show originally was thought to show new affiliate marketers tips and strategies. Out of the current 7 shows out, only one in my opinion (I’ve watched 1-5) seems to be the 4th or 5th show. I can’t exactly pinpoint but John Chow was explaining how to utilize Google Coupons using prepaid VISA cards. Very helpful advice, but if you want to know how, you’ll have to watch it yourself.

THE VERDICT

I lost all interest in the show when I was watching Episode 6 yesterday and all Jonathan van Clute could do was talk and talk and talk and talk. Make matters worse, he wasn’t even explaining anything most of us didn’t already know. Another reason is because although I applaude Jonathan Ryan, its “share something in 60 seconds” so how does 60 seconds turns into 2-4 minutes.

All in all, I give the Top Affiliate Challenge a 2 out of 10 stars. Top Affiliate Challenge should revamp and maybe give it one last shot next year, right now, its not cutting it. Stick to subscribing to FeedFront.

Thank you for watching a few of the episodes and taking the time to raise some questions about the format of the show.

Everyone on and off set was questioning the lack of specific rules in the game. We initially wanted more rules, but the problem is enforcement.

Why create a rule you can’t enforce? If we prohibit contestants from pulling favors, using personal money, or flipping existing campaigns we have no way of specifically determining that. So all of the honest people will follow the rules - and lose.

I even sat down with John Chow and asked him how he would create a system that would accomplish that goal that someone LIKE John Chow would not be able to game. Needless to say, we never figured it out.

All things aside however, I am very happy with the way the show is shaping up in episodes 7-9. We have finally found the show’s “voice” and our traffic indicates it is speaking to our viewers.

If you have the time, watch episodes 8 and 9 (8 sets up 9). We identified one of the biggest problems with the show and eliminated it.
